I have to be thankful for this Momma giraffe at the Virginia Zoo. She poses well for pretty stellar portraits. And more important, in a few minutes, she provided more teachable moments than some books offer. My favorite lesson - for purely photographic reasons - is that if you want to make friends, it is not polite to stick out your tongue.
That's exactly what she did, and the people standing closest to her quickly retreated from the railings.
